Maths Key Skills – Mr Wainwright’s Group…

This week we have been learning to tell the time using an analogue clock.

We have discussed the hands and what they do, when a time PAST the hour and TO as well as recording a time on to a clock face.

Over the next week, talk about time with your children and regularly ask them what the time is whenever you see a clock face…practise makes perfect.

Anyone in my group who approaches me and tells me the correct time will get a credit (maximum 1 credit per day!)

Time is in your hands!

Super Senlis Sportshall Athletes!

Twelve children from Year 5 and 6 competed against schools from across the town this morning as part of the Sainsbury’s School Games.

The top ranked schools at the end of the competition are to progress to the Level 3 finals, representing Northamptonshire at the end of February.

Our superstar children competed in:

Sprints
Middle distance
Long distance
Vertical jump
Standing long jump
Three spring jump
Speed bounce
Chest push
Javelin

For the girls, Cynthia and Shanice left their rivals for dead in the sprints and showed perfect technique in the speed bounce.  Annabelle was the chest push queen whilst Kasey nearly threw the javelin out of the hall! Jennifer showed great stamina in the long distance event after a hard warm up on the tread mill before breakfast and Courntey, a real all-rounder, jumped her way into Simon de Senlis folklore.

For the boys, Tom and Ethan showed a clean pair of heels, George ‘rocket-launcher’ Kennedy excelled in the javelin whilst Alfie and George excelled in the long distance and jumping events. William ‘Crazy Bill’ Wright crowned the meet for Simon de Senlis with a barnstorming run in the final event, negotiating his way through a plethora of obstacles and finishing the competition in style.

Well done to all of you…you’ve made us all very proud.

Vive Les Fleurettes!

Maths Key Skills – Mr Wainwright’s Group…

So…it’s really important that we practise our addition and subtraction facts to 20…they are the ‘little’ sums like:

12 + 3 = 15
15 – 3 = 12
9 + 5 = 14
19 – 4 = 15

…and so on.

Over the weekend, show your family how to plat ‘Shut the Box’ and play lots of games…it really helps!

If you can’t remember…watch this tutorial:

You can make your own just by cutting out 9 pieces of paper, numbering them and turning them over.

Have fun!
